Shahaf communities - are groups of people who have chosen to build their lives in socially and geographically marginalized Israeli towns and neighborhoods to help decrease socioeconomic gaps and effect long-term social and educational change.
Shahaf communities are based upon three central pillars:
- Social involvement that contributes to a more just society
- Communal processes of learning and development
- A community way of life, such as religious celebrations or other group activities
Our communities are all over the map and are changing the face of Israeli society through social involvement:
- Educating children and youth in formal and informal settings
- Reducing gaps through social-business initiatives that provide employment opportunities
- Improving the image of the periphery and increasing social capital
- Contributing to the cultural life of the neighborhoods and towns in which they live
- And a variety of other initiatives spanning the fields of environment, community health, finance, Jewish identity and more.
